Get focused: start with this one thing (it’s ridiculously simple, too!)
Hey hey hey Beloved!
Last week I promised to send you one habit/actionable tip to actually focus on your word/phrase for the year.
And… it’s super duper simple.
Just write it down every day (and actually think about what it means for you that day)
I know, I know – that’s painfully obvious, right?
The thing is – it really makes a difference when you consciously remember your word/focus phrase regularly.
It helps you remember that “Oh hey, I wanted to be [perserverant, playful, peaceful, etc.] today. What’s on my plate today? How can I put on that mindset today?”
Let’s break it down a bit more, though, k?
1) Keep your word/phrase top of mind by writing it/reviewing it on the regs
One of the best things about attending a workout class or doing a fitness video?
You don’t have to think as hard about what you’ll do and just follow along with the instructor.
Look: I’m all for independent thinking AND sometimes it’s nice for someone else to tell me what to do so I just get a move on. Are you with me?
That being said, here are a few options you can pick from to revisit your focus word/phrase:
- Write it at the top of your journal/planner entry for the day
- Put a sticky note on your bathroom mirror/computer desk/wherever you spend consistent time at
- Pop it in your phone as a daily reminder and say it out loud, “I am choosing to be [brave, loving, etc.] today.”
2) Take a few seconds to consider HOW you want to put that mindset on today
Look at your plans for the day. Where’s an opportunity to be more joyful? And choose to be 1% (or more!) like that.
We don’t have to overcomplicate it.
Real-life application: This year I’m focusing on being Radiantly Audacious. Basically, I want to be bold in my faith, relationships, coaching, self-advocacy, etc. And I also want to come at it from a light-filled perspective (i.e. release the mental pressure to “get it right” and choose to just show up and enjoy the heck out of it). If it sounds a little woo-woo or confusing, so sorry!
For instance, most days I’ve been jotting down Radiantly Audacious on my journal and planner pages. Today I had child coverage (yay!) and wanted to really hunker down into Coffee Chats and Yoga Mats marketing (which, by the way, putting yourself out there can be downright intimidating at times). Rather than letting myself spiral into circles about all the ways it could go wrong, I decided to be audacious, just show up, and have fun doing it.
To bring it back to you, Beloved, what method will you use to remember your word/phrase? Hit reply. I’d love to cheer you on!
Here’s to you embracing who God created you to be (you’re pretty awesome) so you can confidently step into any season with passion, purpose, and peace!
