A Safe Space for Readers and Loved Ones

It’s all too easy to over-share online (and in person!) where it’s more hurtful than helpful. I’m committed to creating a safe place for readers and loved ones.

The ability to connect with others through social media can be a great benefit to us personally.

Sometimes, though, these platforms are used for sharing in ways that are more hurtful than helpful. It’s all too easy to use them to mock and attack others rather than seek peace.

And… what goes on the Internet stays on the Internet.

My Commitment to Readers and Those I Love

Since restarting this blog, I’ve pondered this. So, I decided to declare my commitments to my approach to this blog:

I pray to God that Coffee Chats and Yoga Mats is a safe, encouraging place for myself and others.

I pray that I use social media, email and other online platforms as a tool for good, not abuse.

I’m committed to not using this blog and other spaces as a place to speak ill of others – regardless of how close my relationship is or isn’t with them.

I’m committed to not sharing stories or images that embarrass or mock my loved ones. If there’s even a hint of mockery, I need to either rewrite it or delete it. My ego is not worth hurting a relationship.

I’d rather err on over-praising my loved ones here than highlighting their flaws. We all have things to deal with. It’s not my responsibility to do it on someone else’s behalf (like ever!), even more so on a public platform.

Wrap-Up

Should social media just be highlight reels of all the perfect things in our lives? Heck no!

Yet, we can talk about the hard things and still honor others along the way.

And… let’s be honest, I don’t want readers like you to dread getting messages from me because of the sheer ickiness.

(Obviously, you should unsubscribe if you felt that way. Don’t accept something as normal if it’s not actually healthy.)

So, do you have your own stance for how you’ll use online media? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Be brave. Be bold. I’m cheering for you!
