Living beloved

You Get to Decide What’s Enough for You Right Now

Maybe you stumbled upon this post because you’re feeling overwhelmed with your life. Too many things on your plate and not enough time and energy to do it all, right?

Beloved, this post is here to gently remind you that you DO have the power and freedom to decide what’s “enough” for you right now.

I get it, though. Sometimes you can’t just drop everything you’re juggling. Sometimes you have to just keep pushing through and do the things you’ve been given.

I hope, though, that you’ll find some practical encouragement to help you determine what’s good enough for you right now.

Regardless of what season you’re in, you can live intentionally with passion and purpose as God’s beloved. Even today.

Here are some nuggets from a few different all-star resources to get you thinking about how you can give yourself a bit more grace.

The Purpose Show Nugget: Start an enough list (5 minutes)

In podcast episode Bonus Ep. 003 How “Enough” Lists Have Changed My Life, Allie Casazza discussed “enough lists.” As she puts it:

An enough list outlines what is enough in your life so that you can focus on what is important and determine what is excess. It can be applied to every area of your life; from business to family, your health to your home. Enough lists cause you to ask yourself, what is “enough” in this area of my life? What is it that I’m called to do in this area of my life?

Allie Casazza, The Purpose Show: Bonus Ep. 003 How “Enough” Lists Have Changed My Life

It is so easy to have a long list of to-do’s. Obviously, they all matter, otherwise, why would you waste your time working on them, right?

But… the idea of an “enough” list is pretty liberating.

What does it mean to be doing “enough” to grow in your career, family, health, etc.?

“I need to work out more.” Well, what’s enough to achieve this? Working out 15 minutes a day? An hour two days a week? Having a dance party in your living room?

If you boiled down what is “enough” in your spheres of influence, what would that look like?

Kristina Kuzmic‘s Nugget: Add “right now” to whatever is frustrating you

It’s not permanent. Whatever you’re going through, whether it’s really something heavy and life-altering like a divorce, or a huge financial struggle, or whether it’s just everyday parenting chaos… it’s not permanent….

So, here’s a tip, add “right now” to whatever is frustrating you about parenting or life in general so that you’re not putting a permanence on it. You’re realizing that whatever is difficult right now, it doesn’t have to be difficult forever.

Kristina Kuzmic’s video: It’s Not Permanent

Isn’t that just beautiful? It is so easy to forget that life won’t always be like “this,” whatever “this” is. You won’t always be sleep-deprived because of your baby’s wake-ups. You won’t always feel like you’re scrounging to survive.

The Authentic Intimacy Podcast Nugget: What your role as a mom is REALLY all about

This nugget is geared toward moms, but if you battle with perfectionism and aren’t a mom – the basic idea still applies to you, too.

As Juli Slattery and her guests talk about on the Authentic Intimacy Getting Rid of the Mommy Guilt podcast, the goal of motherhood isn’t to raise a perfect child or even a Jesus-loving child. (What?!)

They talk about how your role as a mother is to strive to be like Jesus. You can’t force your child to walk in the Way. You can point to the Way.

You can’t force your friends or family or anyone else to become perfect, Jesus-lovers.

You just need to walk closely with Christ and invite them to join you on your journey.

Isn’t that crazy-liberating?!

Let’s Get Personal: I need to ask “What’s enough for right now?” regularly, too

Lately, I’ve been feeling frustrated that I haven’t been doing “enough” with Coffee Chats and Yoga Mats, parenting, relationships, so many things…

I want to grow Coffee Chats and Yoga Mats so it can impact and encourage more people, but technical issues, my niche, and time to work have been obstacles.

Little Man’s sleep regressions and skipped naps set me back. A migraine kicks in and I can’t seem to get my mojo back.

You know – LIFE happens and I get so frustrated that things don’t go according to my expectations. (Can you relate?)

It really has been a gamechanger to think:

  • What’s enough for right now? It’s hard to focus when you’re sleep-deprived in pain, so what’s a more realistic plan? Lying down for 15 minutes? Doing a learning activity where someone else gives me something to ponder? Taking a few minutes to brainstorm and call it good? You get the idea.
  • This is how it is right now. My son will not perpetually have 3 AM parties in his bedroom – at least not for the next decade. This week we got less sleep. That doesn’t guarantee that I’ll never get great sleep again. Make the incremental steps. That’s a win in itself!
  • Walk with Jesus. Invest the time into that relationship and everything else will be affected for the better. Keep it simple.

While I definitely don’t have it all figured out, these ideas have been so encouraging to help me live more intentionally with passion and purpose as God’s beloved.
