My driver’s side rear-view mirror fell off a couple nights ago. After my most recent post about failures and falls, I assume this is symbolic and an opportunity for growth … or something equally deep and meaningful.
I’m starting to feel like a country song.
Bye bye love, I’ll catch you later
Got a lead foot down on my accelerator and the rearview mirror torn off
I ain’t never lookin’ back. And that’s a fact.
I’ve tried all I can imagine
I’ve begged and pleaded in true lover’s fashion
I’ve got pride, I’m takin’ it for a ride
Bye bye, bye bye my baby, bye bye

The funny thing is that my other rear-view mirror has been charmingly tied up with black duct tape and has been utterly useless since May.
My opportunities to see reflections of roads traveled are becoming increasingly limited.
Maybe this means I ought to stop looking into the past and just focus on the future.
Possibly this is trying to teach me that sometimes you have to streamline your focus in order to see your destination.
Perhaps this indicates that I have a bright future ahead of me because there’s no more looking back.
Wait. I’m not so sure that it’s symbolic of a “bright future,” merely because a fuse went out last week and I honestly can’t see anything in the dear ol’ blazer at night since the lights refuse to come on. Our symbolism just dimmed a little. Drat.
After dropping by the body shop, the kind mechanic removed the dangling mirror so I don’t have to continue cruising through town with my hand glued to a worthless mirror.
Driving with a missing rear view mirror and an incompetent partner mirror is quite enlightening.
I feel naked.
Hm. Is that what lesson we’re actually supposed to learn here? Driving naked is a good thing?
If so, we have a problem. I’m not a fan of full-body sunburns. Bummer.
